PAST PROJECTS
Committed To Making A Difference
George Shinn’s history with helping others is steeped in his personal history. Having come from a humble background, the George Shinn Foundation was established to help others in big and small and small ways.
The George Shinn Foundation has a history of providing funding and hands-on assistance to others by consistently reaching out with time, money and resources to offer people access to basic needs.
The Foundation has also hosted youth from Franktown Open Hearts, given more than 60 pairs of shoes to Room In The Inn, and donated funds to Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and the Lioness Foundation.
The George Shinn College of Arts & Entertainment
Education has always been at the heart of George’s business and personal life – his business life started by owning a chain of business schools. Many years later, his understanding that education is the key to changing lives led him to endow the George Shinn College of Arts & Entertainment at Lipscomb University. Their mission to be a Christ-centered, innovative, entrepreneurial arts community committed to rigorous artistic training, creative collaboration, and professional growth. The George Shinn Center sits at the heart of the University and serves as a welcome Center to all who visit the campus of Lipscomb University.
The George Shinn Foster Care Program
I thank the Lord for all of His blessings. In return, I wanted to give to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. The children placed in foster care deserve to learn about and follow the Lord while being given every opportunity to have a wonderful childhood with loving, Christian families. We are honored with the decision to have this program renamed The George Shinn Foster Care Program. God is so GOOD! -George Shinn
The George Shinn Foundation Clinic
The House of Hope Clinic was officially dedicated as The George Shinn Foundation Clinic. In May 2013. Our partnership with the Amer-Haitian Bon Zami House of Hope (HOH) has helped accomplished great things for the community of Tabarre, a suburb located in Port-au-Prince.
The House of Hope is a children’s home founded in 1976 to help alleviate the suffering of children in Haiti. AHBZ is a cooperative work between the Haitian and U.S. staffs. Formed in 1976 to help alleviate the suffering of children in Haiti, AHBZ is a cooperative work between the Haitian and U.S. staffs. “Bon Zami” means “good friends” in Haitian Creole. The mission of AHBZ and HOH is to care for the orphaned and abandoned children of Haiti, preparing them to be well-rounded adults, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, who can provide for themselves and their impoverished nation and to establish a bond of friendship and understanding between Americans and Haitians.
George Shinn’s Care for the Needy
Throughout the years and through several states, The George Shinn Foundation made sure that the poor and homeless were provided warm socks and shoes through cold winters. More recently, the George Shinn Foundation has worked with the Bridge Ministries (Nashville, TN) and the Source Ministries (Vero Beach, FL) to help the needy with food and resources.
The George Shinn Foundation Christmas ShinnDigs
For many years, the George Shinn Foundation has hosted Christmas ShinnDigs for Seniors in a variety of locations including North Carolina, Florida in past years and more recently in New Orleans and in Nashville. The ShinnDigs are always a delight to host to make sure that our Senior Citizens are not left out during the holiday season. The current Pandemic prevents us from hosting ShinnDigs in 2020, but we hope to be back in 2021!
Grand ShinnDig for Kids benefiting the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home
On October 18th, I am hosting a private, invitation-only fundraising event at our home, all to benefit the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes.
Shoe Drive for the Needy
It’s been a tradition for many years for George Shinn to donate new shoes to those in need, especially during the holidays when so many families are feeling a financial crunch.George’s father died when George was 8 and he was raised by a single mother who was a wonderful role model and taught George the importance of serving with a thankful heart.
The George Shinn Foundation regularly works with ministries and non-profits to donate shoes to the needy as part of its ongoing philanthropic work.
