The George Shinn Leadership Retreat Center is a 117-acre Tennessee ranch donated by George Shinn to Church of the King – the family’s home congregation.
Mr. Shinn envisioned creating a peaceful retreat specifically designed for missionaries, ministers, and ministry leaders from around the world to find rest, a refreshing environment, and renewal. After George spent part of his recovery from prostate cancer in 2009 at the ranch, he felt led by God to donate the property for a greater purpose so that others could experience a similar solitude and guidance at this tranquil destination.
Originally built in 1849 and renovated in 1990, the ranch is nestled in picturesque eastern Tennessee in a beautiful, rolling valley on the banks of a meandering river just near Jonesborough, Tennessee. George Shinn believed the property would be properly stewarded by the Church of the King to help them meet the church mission of reaching people and buliding lives. Out of their appreciation for the gift, church leadership decided to officially name it The George Shinn Leadership Retreat Center.
We thank Church of the King Senior Pastor Steve Robinson and Executive Pastor Randy Craighead for helping to spearhead this project and fulfill George and Denise’s God-led vision of establishing one of the finest ministry leader retreats in the world.
