Church of the King is set to begin restoring its St. Charles campus at the historic Jerusalem Temple building.

The church purchased the building at 1137 St. Charles Ave. in 2006 from The Way Church to accommodate growing numbers. It has been used for medical, dental and veterinary outreach efforts since then.Church officials plan to announce a gift from former New Orleans Hornets owner George Shinn to the project on Aug. 29, a news release said.

Construction is expected to begin in October and church services next fall.

The facility, designed by architect Emile Weil and built in 1918, has a Middle Eastern design inspired by its original owners, now known as the Shriners. It has housed debutante parties, medical school events, Mardi Gras balls and Shriner circuses.

Church of the King, founded in 1999, has campuses in Metairie, Mandeville and Biloxi, Mississippi.
